I put my name down for the free Journal 52 workshop and today I made my first one. The theme is up, up and away. I used my brand-new Octopode Factory 'Witch' stamp with her flying broom !
I used a Dylusions Journal for this. I still had a brand new one because the old one filled up really quickly so I bought another one. I then discovered the Moleskine ones and sort of forgot about the Dylusions one, mainly because the 2-page spreads are very big. I decided to dedicate my brand-new one to the Journal 52 workshop and only use one page at a time.
I started with Gesso and then my beloved Pan Pastels. I did some background stamping and also used a stencil with white ink. The hot air balloons are from Tim Holtz' Tiny things and so are the postage stamps. I then used my white paint pen to put some splatter on the page. I stamped 'Witch' on white card stock and coloured her with alcohol markers, cut her out, coloured the cut edges with a black marker and glued her on the page. Lastly I made the sentiment with sticky letters.
Thanks for stopping by !
Hope you like it….
You make really cool backgrounds with Pan pastels, Corrie! yellow looks so beautiful.. wonderful page!

This is so pretty, Corrie. Great job.
ReplyDeleteI haven't had a ton of luck with pan Pastels so it was very helpful of you to mention that you gesso first. Maybe that's what I've been doing wrong. Now I'm excited to try again.
Love your Octopode witch. Their stuff is so cute.
Thanks for all the sweet blog comments. I'd like to respond by email but your return address is "no reply".
Have a terrific Thursday :-)
Warmly,
Nicole
Hi Nicole, I do use gesso which has a bit of 'grit' in it so it is not smooth. The Pan pastels have something to stick to then. My experience is also that if the surface is too smooth it won't stay on or even go on.. Hope this makes sense. You could also rub some Versa Mark ink on your page to make it stick but this is not my preferred method.
DeleteAnd your work is awesome, that's why I give you 'sweet comments' !!

PS If you want I can send you my e-mail address if you like that better
I've put a 'contact me' form at the bottom on the right side of my blog.

That looks like my kind of a flying start...your art is always so cute.
ReplyDeleteYour background has such interest to it Connie and I love that witch!
ReplyDeleteMaybe I need to be brave and delve into journalling especially as I received a gift of a handbound book from a art friend for my birthday last year. The problem is, I am frightened of making a mess of her beautiful gift! I really do need to feel the fear and do it anyway, as they say LOL.
Anyway, a fabulous page Connie.

I used to be frightened to use my journals but then I thought what is the point of having them if you don't use them. So just go ahead and do it. I can imagine a journal page, made in your very wonderful style would be a joy to look at. I for one would love to see one ! So, be brave and do it !!!
DeleteGood luck and all the best,
Corrie x
This page is fabulous, Corrie. Thanks for explaining a bit about pan pastels, too, although I don't own any at this point in time. I'm wondering if I use gesso first, maybe the gelatos I've just bought might be easier to work with too. I'll give it a try.
ReplyDeleteDeze is ook weer erg ;leuk Corrie, geinige Stampotique heks:0)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Corrie. I'll definitely be trying that technique soon :-)
ReplyDeletehahaha, great page again!!! fab use of Panpastels and gesso on it, and this Octopode witch is terrific! Coco xx
ReplyDeleteI love it. Colours are so bright.
ReplyDeleteFollowing along with Journal 52, Corrie, but not sure how much I will get accomplished. Love your first piece...you have followed the theme, but the art is uniquely yours! Love it! Mwah!
