Gelli Plate Experiments part 4

Hello everyone,

and welcome to the penultimate post for Gelli Arts. In these blogposts (2nd - 6th of June) I'll be showing you my experiments in using the Gelli Plates as stamp. This is what I used:

Experiment no. 8

For this experiment I wanted to try a multiple layer technique. This works really well when you pull prints but I didn't know whether is would work if you stamped with the plate.

I started with brayering the paint onto the round Gelli Plate.

I then put a mask on it to take away some of the paint.

Leaving the mask in place I put some punchinella on the top and blotted off some of the paint.

This is what it looked like.

After taking the mask off, it looked like this. You then have to let it dry. It takes about 10 minutes.

Next, you brayer on another layer of paint. I used this plum colour.

Again I put a stencil over the top and blotted off some of the paint. Let this dry too.

The last layer is white and as soon as you have put it on, you stamp with it.

It didn't work as well as when you pull the prints. It has probably something to do with the amount of pressure you can apply when the paper is on top (for pulling prints) in comparison to when you stamp with the plate. I still like it though. I looks nice an grungy...

I put the mask back on and used a black pen to go around it. I think this would make a great card topper...

Experiment no. 9

So, having learnt from the previous experiment I decided to try it another way.

Brayer on the blue paint and put the butterfly on. This is a paper die cut. It absorbed a lot more paint than the mask I used in the previous experiment.

I put on the punchinella and blotted off some of the paint.

Looks like this.

I then stamped this straight away, while it was still wet.

Next I applied a lime green to the same Gelli Plate...

And used the Punchinella again, blotting away quite a bit of paint.

Then stamped over the top. Of course this is only two layers. I suppose you could continue..

Again I went around with a black pen and added a stamped sentiment.

Thank you for stopping by today !

There is one more blogpost to follow and that will be tomorrow ! I hope you will come and have a look.

Gelli Plate Experiments part 3..

Hello everyone,

and welcome to the third instalment of my Gelli Adventure... A while ago Gelli Arts asked me if I was willing to do some experimenting by using the Gelli Plates as stamps. Of course I was willing and I had heaps of fun playing with these:

Experiment no. 6

For this page I decided to try Distress Inks. I thought about using the brayer to put them on the Gelli Plate but while I was playing I noticed it was easier to just use the ink pad as an ink pad and pounce it on the Gelli Plate as if it were a stamp.

I tried to put ink on the plate, then stamping with a clean rubber stamp on the Gelli Plate before stamping the Gelli Plate onto the paper and also to use the rubber-stamp with a darker ink onto the Gelli Plate after inking up. You can see some lighter and some darker rings in the prints.

This is what the Gelli Plate looks like after I pounced the ink pad on it. Doesn't seem enough does it? But it is plenty as you can see in the finished page.

Here I stamped it with the rubber stamp and some darker ink...

And this is what it looks like; I like the effect and will do this again sometime...

Here is the finished page. Again you can use this for all sorts of things. As a background for an art journal, for cards, tags, act's etc. The possibilities are endless..

For good measure I did another one with two shades of purple ink. Here I used the method of inking up with the light ink and over stamping with the darker ink. You'll see the end result is more even than the yellow one..

Inked up with the light ink...

Stamp I used, designed by Birgit Koopsen for Carabelle Studio, inked up with the darker shade.

This is what it looks like before stamping.

Amazing result isn't it...

And here is the full page.

I had so much fun that I did another one... Same thing. I just didn't use the rubber stamp every time.

Thank you so much for stopping by ! I hope you'll be back tomorrow for some more Gelli Stamping fun !

Gelli Plate Experiments part 2..

Hello everyone,

and welcome to part two of my Gelli Plate adventure. As I said yesterday, Gelli Arts asked me to do some experimenting by using the Gelli Plates as stamps and that is what I did.

Again I used acrylic paints, stencils and stamps. I am amazed at the lovely effects you can achieve like this...

Experiment no. 3

I used the round plate this time and the round stamp. I planned on using both but didn't in the end..

I used orange and pink paint and filled the page with these circles. You brayer the paint onto the Gelli Plate, stamp the stamp into the wet paint and then stamp with the Gelli Plate. Just remember to wipe or wash you stamp straight away as the paint is very hard to remove when it is dry.

I decided to put this yellow paint over the top. I brayered it onto the Gelli Plate, put the circle stencil on, used a piece of paper to blot off the paint in the holes, took the stencil off and then stamped with the Gelli Plate.

The result is very subtle but I like it... Use for art journals, cards, tags etc..

Experiment no. 4

This time I used my favourite colours at the moment (could be totally different next week, ;o)
and decided to be a little looser. Not make every print sit nicely next to each other. For this page I used my 3x5 plate that I bought recently.

I really love how this one came out... again just brayer paint onto the plate, put stencil on top, blot off paint with a piece of paper or a baby wipe, take stencil away and stamp with the Gelli Plate.

Experiment no. 5

A little more of the same, this time with the triangular Gelli Plate from the set. I think this is my least favourite of the three. I really love the round and the square one though...

I used turquoise and pink for this page and again I just filled the page with a base layer of stamped triangles. I used two shades of turquoise and two shades of pink.

I turned the Gelli Plate as I was going along the page..

This is what the base layer looked like...

I then used a number stencil and the same paints and some white and added another layer of stamping over the top. I brayered on the paint, put on the stencil, wrong side up !!! (or your numbers will be reversed), remove paint with a piece of paper or a baby wipe, take stencil off and stamp with the Gelli Plate..

Thank you for stopping by today and I hope you will return tomorrow for some more Gelli Stamping fun !
